Unconference 2013 - What's going on in Room 600?
We’ve been hearing exuberant reports from unconference goers and been talking about how to import that excitement, spontaneity, and informal sharing of expertise into WLMA gatherings. If you are unfamiliar with the unconference idea, read Greg Bem's article "The Unconference Discourse Model" in The Medium, Winter 2013. The Wikipedia article is another good place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference
WLMA added an unconference element to annual conference 2012 with an area dedicated to Electrifying Ideas. We are expanding participation in that area for our Library, Information, Technology: Get it in Gear! Conference in October 2013.
Please take time to speak up at our conference. Talk to your colleagues, throw out your challenges, and expand your solutions. There will be WLMA unconference chairs encourage participation, stimulate discussion, facilitate sessions, explain the unconcept, and generally make you feel welcome.
We know from feedback that everyone in WLMA has something to offer and really enjoys meeting new colleagues and sharing ideas.
The unconference session will run alongside the regularly scheduled sessions Friday, October 18th 1:15-2:15 and 3:15-4:15, and on Saturday, October 19th, from 8:30-11:15.
Please give the unconference a try. Visit Room 600!
I'd like to suggest a brainstorm around the ALA Declaration for Rights to Libraries https://www.facebook.com/DeclarationforLibraries to help spread events like the signing of the Declaration @WLMA to take place in our schools and communities as well. Let's talk!
